Happy 50th Birthday Dave Gahan

Dave (David) Gahan
May 9, 1962

Happy Birthday Dave Gahan!! Happy Dave Day and a Happy Dave Day to Russian Devotees!!
It's here!! I've been counting down the days as if it were christmas!! Today is a great day in DM and Music history! Lead singer and frontman of Depeche Mode, our Devotees 'Personal Jesus' Celebrates his 50th Birthday!!
He has sang to us, he has danced for us, he has understood us and saved us!! The greatest frontman of all time has died and come back and it's truly a miracle he's with us today! After surviving drug addiction and an overdose in the ealry to mid 90's and his heath and cancer scares on the last DM tour in 2009, I'm really grateful he's still with us. I don't think I could express the many thoughts and feelings I have for Depeche Mode and their music, other that they for me or the closest thing to godliness. Being that I look to their music in times of hope, pain, and happiness.

I created this back in 2010 when I saw one similar for Morrissey. I've noticed it's spread around the world with DM fans, I've pleased that everyone feels the same!

A picture of Dave when he was baby, how adorable!

Oh look at all those cute Russian Dave look a likes!! Here's an excerpt from the documentary "The Posters Came From The Walls" a brilliant film made about DM fans around the world. It was only screened in certain cities around the world and has not been released on dvd. I was fortunate to go to one of the screenings when it was released back in 2010. For those that Don't know Dave Day is a term coined by Russian Devotees, who celebrate Daves birthday in the streets of Russia, which also happens to be the same day as their national military day. I think more US fans should start having DM parades in the middle of the streets! Some of my Russian friends tell me it's not like how it used to be anymore but, darn those Russians stay devoted!! I love you Russsian Devotees!!

A Beautifully made tribute video for Dave!

Here is an awesome fan made video for Dave's 50th!!

I baked Dave a cake, like I always do! I think my cakes are getting better if you ask me! I also always wear my Girls Gahan Wild shirt and my custom made DM & Dave pins!! If you've noticed I even altered my blog playlist to feature Dave & DM songs. Today I'm celebrating by blasting Depeche Mode and Dave's music at all hours of the day, spreading the good word of DM & Dave and going out for Depeche Mode Karaoke tonight at the local bar Eastside Luv! (which now sadly isn't happening do to my depressed state due to some upsetting news, but like always DM is there to comfort me)

Have a Black Celebration Tonight!

Happy Birthday Dave Gahan!!
I love you soo much thank you for doing all that you do with your music!!
Happy Dave Day Devotees!!

Happy Birthday Violator

Depeche Mode Violator March 19th 1990
Today the Depeche Mode Violator Album turns 22!
This album practically sealed the deal as Depeche Mode being world wide stars and musicians!!
Arguably their best album ever and certainly an amazing and inspirational album at that! With all kinds of bands and singers covering songs off this album, everyone from Marilyn Manson to Hilary Duff! It also features probably the most well known/popular/famous DM songs out there like Personal Jesus and Enjoy The Silence!!

Also probably the most favorite album artwork ever, done by artist Anton Corbijn!! Oh and music videos too!
It's my personal favorite DM album even though that might sound very cliche. I feel a special connection to it, the month and year it was released was the same as I was conceived, it's the first album that introduced me to DM's music. My all time favorite DM songs including my favorite B sides too are on that album and the song "Waiting For The Night"  was released on single the day before I was born! As for the album artwork and music videos they're some of my favorite ever and the album cover symbolizes a lot for me,I plan on getting the Violator Rose tattooed sometime (even though that's like the most popular DM tattoo ever!)
So here's to the renowned DM album Violator!!
Celebrate by wearing a "Clean" "Blue Dress" with your "Personal Jesus" while "Waiting For The Night" you could "Enjoy The Silence", that would be the "Sweetest Perfection".

I wish I could've been there!! It was craziness, where later on a riot started!!
Violator Fever!!

For my Fashion Program at School there was a theme category where you pick an artist and a song and design a piece that was inspired by it. I picked Depeche Mode and the song Personal Jesus!
This is what I came up with a reflection of the band and the song!

With mucho Mode love

Happy Birthday...

I've been really busy with school, and all of you guys have had nothing to read but birthday posts! So here's a sum up of all the birthday's in these past couple of  days.. for now, I'm sooo behind on blogging and I really really do apologize because I haven't acknowledged the awards I've been given. All I can say is soon hopefully soon!!!

June 9
Johnny Depp
(John Christopher Depp II)
June 9, 1963
Oh yes my long time love, haha! Today Johnny Depp celebrates his 48th birthday! He's my favorite actor and I love everything about him! I love that he's soo into vintage too! (cars, clothing, homes, etc.) Every year since the time I've fallen for him back in 2003 (when technically it was 2001, but it didn't emerge till 2003) I've always baked him a cake or cookies for his birthday. This year I didn't, and I must say, yeah the love has gone down tremendously! See just how obsessed I was throughout my teen years with last years birthday post:
http://vivavictoriavintage.blogspot.com/2010/06/happy-birthday-johnny-depp-my-life-long.html
I'll always love you Johnny!

June 1
Alan Wilder
June 1, 1959
Mr. Alan Wilder turns 52! If you don't know who Alan is, well he's a musical genius really. He was once the former keyboardist in Depeche Mode and left in 1996. He went on to fully continue his solo project Recoil, which is great! I never thought I would see Alan Wilder, well because he left DM when I was only six years old. But last year Recoil went on tour including meet and greets! I went to a special showing were Martin Gore was a guest DJ, it was soo packed and Martin took long nobody had a chance to meet him. Only about  lets say five people some how got backstage a friend of mine was one of them. But here's to Mr. Wilder a talented man who's also very handsome! haha

Probably one of my favorites, if not my very favorite Recoil song, I'm sooo in love the video too! When he played this last year at the concert I was soo happy!

Here's some footage I shot of Alan Wilder at last year's Recoil Show!

 Marilyn Monroe
(Norma Jeane Mortenson)
June 1, 1926 - August 5, 1962
Today the famous Blonde Bombshell of all Blonde Bombshells would've been 85 years old. What more is there to say about Marilyn that Hasn't already been said. An Icon of simply everything, she will always be loved and remembered.

May 31
Depeche Mode
May 31, 1980
My loves and saviors turn 31 years old today!! I love love love this band beyond words!! I can't explain fully how I'll ever feel, the closest thing my love could be for them would be like a religion. Their music is what pulls me through, makes me happy, makes, me sad, inspires me and gives me hope and soo much more...every human emotion. In the simplest terms:
* I made this after I saw something similar for Morrissey on the web

Always devoted forever with love!

Clint Eastwood
(Clinton Eastwood Jr.)
May 31, 1930
The ultimate badass and cowboy (forget John Wayne, ugh!) celebrates his 81st birthday! Mr. Eastwood is a very handsome, talented and awesome actor and director, oh and musician too! He's one of my favorites as well as both my parents favorite actor. For my dad he's kind of like an idol, because for most of my dad's adult life he's been compared to looking like Clint in the classic film "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly". He's a definite pop culture icon, you know there is even a song named after him! Here's to you Mr. Eastwood!

The song "Clint Eastwood" by The Gorillaz

Have a Happy One with tons of Love

Happy Birthday Dave Gahan

Dave Gahan
May 9, 1962
Happy Dave Day everyone!!! That's what the Russian Depeche Mode Devotees like to call it, otherwise known as Dave Gahan's birthday. Today he celebrates his 49th birthday. If you're kind of confused right know or slightly puzzled, Dave is the frontman for the band, my favorite band the best band ever.. Depeche Mode!!!
I love this man more than words! Oh Devotion, he along with Martin Gore are my saviors (really they are)! In fact this past Friday the 6th, I went to go see if I could possibly meet or get a glimpse of Dave since he was being awarded by the MusiCares Charity Foundation which helps musicians overcome drug addiction. He's been a supporter of the charity and is a recovered drug addict himself. I was planning on going to the show the cheapest tickets were $125 and it was going to charity, but I don't know why I didn't go!! Biggest regret ever, well thus far!! Oh and yeah well a waited the three hours to see him, it turns out I was on the wrong side of the plaza brillant! :(

Dave performed a cover of Joy Divisions "Love Will Tear Us Apart Again,"!! I'm really really in love with Dave's version.

Surprise guest Martin Gore of DM showed up!!!!

*** I really need to go to class!! So this is very short and very last minute, but don't worry I have tons more to post! I'm wearing my Dave Gahan shirt and buttons and I baked him a cake!! All pictures you need to see!! So they will be up asap! I really do apologize for this very simple birthday post it's unlike me, especially since it's Dave Gahan's birthday. Currently my computer is broken and I'm really having trouble uploading pictures and posting information from different sources, like my school for instance.

Okay I'm back now here are some pictures on how I celebrated:
Here I am wearing my "Girls Gahan Wild" shirt that I bought at the DM convention. I love it some people become a little confused or get the wrong idea about me when I wear this shirt. I merely tell them 'If you know about the band Depeche Mode you'll get it." it's kind of an inside joke haha. oh an that's the cake I baked him, French Vanilla if your wondering. I know the frosting is messy, but that's my problem as soon as I frost it starts to melt.

Wearing my DM and Dave Gahan Buttons, the bottle cap one I made myself.

What do you know! I was thrilled that on his birthday my Dave Gahan biography I recently purchased arrived in the mail! I can't wait to read it!!

I thought I would leave you with this Dave Gahan song off his solo album 'Hourglass'. It really is a favorite song of mine and truly beautiful. No even though what I'm about to say is quite grim, I sincerely mean it.
When I die, can you please play this song at my funereal.

I really can go on for hours how much this man and his part in Depeche Mode have made such an impact on my everyday life how lovingly devoted I am, but I'm not. haha But If you'd like you can read last year's Dave Gahan Birthday post it pretty much explains it all.

Happy Birthday Dave Gahan!! I love you!!
Happy Dave Day DM Devotees!!

Happy Birthday Carmen Miranda

Maria do Carmo Miranda da Cunha
"Carmen Miranda"
February 9, 1909 - August 5, 1955

I absolutely adore this woman!! Everything about her!! She is definitely one of my idols and all time style inspirations. I remember when I was a little kid I would put bananas on my head and try to balance them, haha. I also remember when I was a Girl Scout we had an International themed dinner and we had to come dressed in a  country's native or type of of clothing. I told my mother I wanted to be the lady with the fruit on her head that sings and dances (I didn't know her name then, or I just kept forgetting?)  So my mother made my costume like Carmen Miranda who's style came from the Afro Brazilian Capoeira/ Samba culture. She was so fun, so unique and vibrant!! She was the whole package and had true talent. She sang, danced, acted, designed her outfits, was completely beautiful, funny, unique, a bombshell, stylish... I can go on about how marvelous she was, Carmen was a true artist. The constant inspiration she's been to myself and others! I will always, always love her!!!

Her style and talent never seizes to amaze me!!
Big Hair, Big Accessories, Big Smile, Big Personality

I want all of her shoes!!! And her awesome huge pompadour!!

Can I just have this outfit already?

Oh Oh I want this entire ensemble!!

Other's Inspired By Carmen Miranda

My very very favorite cartoon Tom and  Jerry, in this episode "Baby Puss" from 1943 one of the cats teasing Tom does a very cute Miranda imitation, singing probably my favorite and the most popular Miranda song "Mamae Eu Quero".

The very hilarious Lucille Ball in the classic american tv show "I Love Lucy" in this episode "Be a Pal" from 1951. Lucy thinks  her husband Ricky misses his native country, Cuba, so she decided to bring "Cuba" to him. Doing a hilarious imitation of Carmen Miranda singing yet again, "Mamae Eu Quero".

On a season of the tv show "America's Next Top Model" a few year's back the contestant's were given the challenge of embodying Carmen Miranda, all of which had no idea who she was until they mention "Chiquita Banana".  Ladies how can you not know??!! Ugh, any who I for one loved contestant Fo, and thought she pulled off Carmen well, even it was too literal. Yeah, Carmen would never be caught dead in sneakers and sweats! Fun and Glamour are what Carmen was all about!

Fruit company "Chiquita Banana" and the iconic image and song, with this made for theaters commercial from the 1940's. I have a feeling Miss Miranda was the inspiration!

My Carmen Miranda Inspired Outfit

I'm a Chica Chica Boom Chic!! Wearing my hair in a bumper bang style with Lime Green accessories, Vintage faux tortoise shell plastic hoop earrings, Vintage Blouse, Black Pencil skirt and 1940's style leather wedges.

My Carmen pose, haha!

Happy 80th Birthday James Dean

Today would have been the 80th Birthday of the beloved great young actor who graced us on screen for such a short period of time, but forever remained in are hearts and memories, practically created a subculture, defined a generation as well as influenced the world and changed pop culture.
James Dean.
James Byron Dean
February 8, 1931 - September 30, 1955

James in 1938

With Actress Natalie Wood in "Rebel Without a Cause"

On the set of the film "Giant"

James with his Siamese Kitten Curtis
Curtis was given to him by friend, Actress Elizabeth Taylor. The day before he died he gave Curtis away, to go to a car rally. He once said before something like, "I'm afraid one day I won't come home and he'll be here waiting for me". How tragic.

Favorite Photos of James
Cigarettes, Cameras, Glasses

Morrissey is an absolutely aficionado of James Dean. His debut solo single "Suedehead", was written about James Dean, with a lovely music video tribute in James' hometown. In the video he actually gets to straddle James' motorcycle and "play" his bongos.

Rest in peace James, we will always love you

James Dean Inspired Outfit
My outfit for today inspired by his iconic look as "Jim Stark" in "Rebel Without a Cause".
Cuffed Jeans, Men's White Cuffed Undershirt, Penny Loafers, Pompadour & Men's Red Dior Cardigan

I wore my recently purchased Vintage Siamese cat brooch, to commemorate his Siamese kitten, Marcus.

A Favorite James Dean Quote
"Only the gentle are ever really strong." - James Dean
